☞ 특별히 알아두어야 할 단어 -기타
1. competition 경쟁, 경기
with a competition (경기에서 이기다)
competition in the market (타이어 시장에서의 경쟁)
2. faculty 교수회, 교직원
Mr.Kim is on the faculty of our university
(김선생님은 우리 대학 교직원 중 한 명이다.)
3. degree 학위
학위에는 a bachelor's degree(학사학위), a master's degree(석사학위), a doctoral degree(박사학위)가 있으며, 박사학위는 간단하게 doctorate이라고 한다.
business degrees (경영학위)
4. occupation 직업
‘거주, 점령’등의 의미, 토익에서는 대부분 ‘직업, 업무’
service occupation (서비스직)
cf) the evidence of human occupation (인간이 거주했다는 증거) the German occupation of France (독일의 프랑스점령)
5. settlement 해결, 합의, 정착
양측의 분쟁을 종결짓는 공식적 합의나 결정을 말하는데, 이때 동사 reach와 잘 어울려 쓰인다.
Management and labor failed to reach a settlement.
(노사는 합의에 이르지 못했다.)
6. attendance 참석, 출석자(수)
수식어로는 high, poor와 어울림, be in attendance는 중대한 행사에 참석한다는 뜻
have a high attendance record
More than 100 people will be in attendance at the conference
7. commission 위원회, 수수료
the Finance Commission's investigation
(재무위원회 조사)
work on a 15% commission
(15%의 수수료를 받고 일하다)
8. convention 컨벤션, 집회 -annual등과 자주 쓰임
annual sales convention (연례 판매 컨벤션)
9. donation 기부, 기부금
anonymous donation (익명의 기부)
10. delegate 대표자, 대리인
send three delegates to the conference.
(5명의 대표를 회의에 보내다)
☞ 파트 V에 적용되는 기출분석 테크닉
1. available(이용 가능한), reliable(믿을 수 있는), under construction(공사중인), access(접근, 입수)
정답일 가능성이 90%이상인 단어들이다.
1) available - 뒤에 전치사 to, at등이 나온다
2) reliable - 형용사 자리 문제로 출제, reliant(의존적인)문제로 혼동하지 않도록.
3) under construction - 전치사 under를 빈칸으로 출제
4) access - 뒤에 전치사 to가 나온다.
2. 뒤에 타동사의 목적어 있으면 능동형(-ing), 없으면 수동형(-ed)
Mr. Rose is very familiar with the most recent issues involved in international trade. (로즈 여사는 국제무역에 관련된 가장 최근의 이슈들에 매우 친숙하다)
빈칸 뒤에 목적어 안보이므로 involved.
3. 101번부터 103번 사이에 나오는 문제
파트V의 101번부터 103번 사이에 격을 묻는 문제가 종종 보이는데, 그 경우 소유격이 답이 되는 경우 많음
4. consider/include+ing형
2000년대에서 ing형을 목적어로 취하는 동사를 묻는 문제는 consider와 include 두 단어만 반복되어서 출제되고 있다. 동명사를 목적어로 취하는 단어는 avoid, enjoy, mind, finish, postpone등이 있지만 토익에서는 아직 출제되지 않고 있다.
다음의 어구들에 눈도장을 찍을 것!

2) include achieving sales goals
5. 아무리 해도 답을 모르는 경우의 마지막 수단 : 제일 많이 봤던 단어를 선택하라
토익에서 답이 되는 어휘들은 대부분 실생활에서 많이 쓰이고 중요한 단어들이 많다. 따라서 정말 아무리 해도 모르는 문제일 경우 한번이라도 봤던 단어를 선택할 것을 권한다.
ex) 1) meagerly, singly, sparsely, barely
2) divided, devised, deviated, divested
barely(간신히, 겨우, 가까스로), divide(나누다)가 정답이었다. 정답인 단어가 가장 많이 보였던 단어들!!
