1. receipt 영수증, 수령
영수증의 의미 외에도 어떤 것을 받는 행위를 공식적으로 말할 때 사용하는데, 이때 upon[on] receipt of(~을 받자마자)의 형태를 많이 쓴다.
receipts for hotels, meals, and transportation
(호텔, 식사, 교통비 영수증)

2. tailor (고객에게 제품 등)을 맞추어주다
‘재단사’, 또는 ‘옷을 짓다’의 뜻에서 발전하여, 옷을 맞춰 입듯이 각각 고객의 요구조건에 ‘맞춤서비스를 한다’는 뜻으로 쓰인다. tailor something to your needs[requirement]의 형태로 많이 등장

3. reserve 예약하다
동사 reserve는 ‘~을 예약하다’라는 타동사로 사용되고, ‘예약’이라는 명사형은 reservation이다. make a reservation(예약하다)의 형태로 많이 쓴다. 명사로 쓰면 ‘보유액, 보유고’라는 뜻이 되기도 함.
reserve tickets in advance (티켓을 미리 예매하다)
make a seat reservation (좌석 예약을 하다)

4. outlet 콘센트, 판로, 대리점
기본적으로 ‘배출구’의 의미를 지닌 단어로, 전기 꽂는 콘센트, 상품들이 팔리는 가게나 회사, 단체를 일컬을 때 쓴다.
The room has enough electric outlets for each person's laptop computer. (그 방엔 노트북 컴퓨터를 꽂을 전기콘센트가 충분하다)

5. advance 전진, 진보, 선불
진보의 의미로 쓰일 때 보통 뒤에 전치사 in과 함께 쓴다. in advance는 ‘미리, 사전의, 앞당겨’의 의미이고, ‘먼저 지불된 돈’을 말할 때도 advance가 쓰인다
recent advance in technology (최근의 기술 진보)
four days in advance (사흘 먼저)
an advance on wages (임금의 가불)
6. stir 휘젓다. 자극하다
stir the food in the pot (냄비에 든 음식을 저어주다)
stir up trouble (문제를 야기하다)

1. maintenance (건물, 기계등의) 관리, 보수
상태를 좋게 유지하기 위해 필요한 수리나 칠 등의 일
regular maintenance checks (규칙적인 관리점검)
2. layover 기착, 경유 - stopover는 영국식표현
The flight has a layover in Wellington
(그 비행기는 웰링턴을 경유한다)
3. pharmacy 약국
pharmacy는 전문성 있는 약국을 의미하지만, drugstore는 보통 처방전이 필요없는 약과 음료수, 화장품 등을 함께 파는 상점 정도. 참고로 pharmacist는 ‘약사’, pharmaceutical company는 ‘제약회사’, pharmaceutical industry는 ‘제약산업’.
The prescription can be filled at any pharmacy, although prices will vary between locations.
(장소마다 가격은 다르겠지만, 어느 약국에서든 처방전 조제를 받을 수 있다)
4. adhesive 접착제
형용사로는 ‘접착성이 있는’, 명사로 ‘접착제’
Necra manufactures adhesives and fastening systems designed for use in home construction. (네크라시는 주택건축용 접착제와 잠금장치를 제조한다)
5. stationery 필기구, 편지지
문구류, 사무용품, 편지지 등을 총칭해 stationery라고 하는데, company stationery는 회사로고 등이 찍혀 있는 것을 말한다.
All business letters should be written on company stationery.
(모든 상용서한은 회사 편지지로 작성해야 한다)
